Pete Knapman

Pete started off as a self-taught coxswain aged 12 – coxing our very own Maggie Hawkyard, back in the days when women rowers were rare.  He learned to row and competed all over the West of England, before being asked by Maggie in 1985 to become a coach. In the last 30 years he has coached Women’s Eights competing in the Head of the River (his crew once achieving 50th out of 260).  Our most experienced coach, Pete currently coaches the J17-18 girls as well as helping Maggie with J14s.  He also works with Andy Sloper in our Learn to Row programme, starting novices off in their own rowing careers.
